Event details
Professor Gagnier will examine the global circulation of English, driven by colonial and neoliberal expansion, and its critique by decolonizing linguists. By analysing this particular example, she turns the decolonizing lens on the agents of global economic and military domination, using it as a methodological introduction to decolonizing theory.
Professor Zhang will focus on modernism across cultures by exploring Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson's engagement with Chinese literati culture in his Letters from John Chinaman, alongside Liang Qichao's novel The Future of New China.
The workshop is organized by the Centre of Political Thought (Exeter) in collaboration with the University of Fudan.
